Benjamin Shapiro is an Associate Professor and the Associate Director for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access (DEIA) in the Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering at the University of Washington (UW), where he is also an Adjunct Associate Professor in the College of Education and Co-director of the Center for Learning, Computing, and Imagination.
Ben is a learning scientist, and his research usually, though not always, focuses on helping youth learn computer science. He earned his Ph.D. in Learning Sciences from Northwestern University in 2009 and his B.A. in Independent Studies from the University of California San Diego in 2002.
In addition to his role at UW, he is also a researcher in Apple’s Human-Centered Machine Learning group.
