Timeline
What Is Expected
- You are expected to successfully complete your qualifying evaluation by the end of your second year or 6th quarter (not counting summer).
- You are expected to successfully complete your general examination by the end of your third year or 9th quarter (not counting summer).
- You are expected to successfully complete your final examination and dissertation submission in your fifth or sixth year.
- The Graduate School states that all work must be successfully completed within 10 years of your start date, including the time spent for your master’s degree.
If you are unable to meet the timeline for your qualifying evaluation or general examination, you must request an extension using this petition for one advisor, this petition for co-advisors. There is no extension petition required for your final exam. Each student should consult with their faculty advisor as to the appropriate choice of coursework and timing of milestones. With your advisor’s permission granted through the petition, these milestone timings can be shaped to your particular research and programmatic needs.
