Degree Planning & Requirements

Study Abroad

Direct Departmental Exchanges

Currently through this study abroad program, CSE offers direct departmental exchanges to four schools located in Europe. Based on the high quality of these schools and our excellent history with these exchanges, it is relatively easy for CSE majors to plan courses that will fulfill degree requirements.

Eligibility: Allen School majors only

Locations:

Dates: All schools are on the semester system – students can choose to go for one semester or for the entire academic year. See each programs individual page for more information on their specific timing.

Courses: Students typically take a mix of CSE core and CSE elective courses, language courses, and/or non-CSE courses through these programs.

Cost: Exchanges use a “home tuition model” meaning you pay an exchange fee equivalent to UW tuition to the UW (1.5 quarters of UW tuition for 1 semester abroad and 3 quarters of UW tuition for 2 semester abroad/for the academic year)

Application Deadline: January 31st, 2025

For more information, please read this page with ALL details on CSE exchanges.

Incoming Exchange Students

KTH, ETH, EPFL, and Saarland students nominated by their home university for an exchange with UW CSE should follow this comprehensive checklist. This information is intended only for students coming to the UW through UW CSE’s partnerships with KTH, ETH, EPFL, or Saarland University.

While CSE strongly supports study abroad, space in our courses is extremely limited for visiting students who are not from our partner universities (KTH, ETH, EPFL, and Saarland). Students from other schools may not be able to take any CSE courses. We strongly encourage students interested in CS to find direct exchange partnernships between your home school and other US universities. If you decide to visit UW through an exchange program that is not affiliated with CSE, please work closely with UW Study Abroad and with CSE advisers before arriving, to determine what courses options may be available.
