Expertise: Cryptography; Security & Privacy
Stefano Tessaro joined the University of Washington in Winter 2019, after five lovely years as an assistant professor at UC Santa Barbara. Even earlier, he was a research scientist at MIT CSAIL and a postdoctoral scholar at UC San Diego. He completed his Ph.D. in 2010 at ETH Zurich.
Tessaro co-leads the Allen School’s Cryptography Group and is also a member of the Theory Group. He works on cryptography, computer security, and theoretical computer science. Theoretical problems motivated by practical applications of cryptography are a common theme of his research. He is also broadly interested in the design of privacy-preserving systems and cryptographic protocols, and in the foundations of cryptography.
