John's primary role is to increase awareness of, and the accessibility to, mental health services within the Allen School. Mental Health Consultation appointments with John are informal conversations and are not a substitute for counseling, crisis intervention, or psychiatric care. You and he can talk about things such as:

  • Personal concerns you have 
  • Problem-solving 
  • How to have a difficult conversation with someone 
  • How to manage short-term stress and anxiety 
  • Help you understand and manage your thoughts and emotions or 
  • John can provide you with information on resources and supports both on and off campus.

John is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and has worked in higher education for over sixteen years including working as a counselor in the UW Counseling Center from 2013-2017.  He holds an MS degree in Applied Psychology from Eastern Washington University, where he also worked as a counselor in the office of Counseling and Psychological Services.  He has worked at both large and small universities, as well as public and private colleges and is happy to be back at the UW and to be working within the Allen School.

Mental Health Consultation Appointments For Allen School Students

Meetings with John are brief, informal consultations which are free and confidential for Allen School students. This service is operated by a licensed mental health professional in association with the University of Washington Counseling Center. Consultation appointments are not a substitute for regular therapy, counseling or psychiatric care. If you book an in-person appointment, check in at the Allen Center reception desk in CSE 101 and let them know you are here for your appointment with John.

15-minute drop-in appointments (also known as "Let's Talk")

  • 15-minute in-person or virtual same day appointments are available Monday through Friday from 3:00p - 3:45p on a first-come, first-served basis.  Please note that these are in-person on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays and virtual on Mondays and Fridays (you will be sent a Zoom link once you schedule the appointment)

Workshops
