FORD MOTOR COMPANY is a major player in the increasing use of information technology for transportation solutions ranging from automotive control systems all the way to entertainment and Internet connectivity. Ford is interested in attracting UW/CSE students to its activities in these areas. Target applications, of course, include cars, but also include Internet-based services for commute optimization, navigation aids, integration with public transportation, etc.. These now make up a larger field being called "Transportation Infotronics". Ford has provided funding of $750,000 to the Department to further the instruction of embedded systems and Internet-based services in our capstone design courses. This scholarship is part of that effort.
There will be two scholarships of $5,000 each awarded each year to University of Washington/CS&E students that meet the following criteria:

- Be working to earn a degree in the University of Washington's Computer Science & Engineering department.
- Exhibit a 3.5 GPA or greater in their major.
- Will complete a research or independent project of at least 5 credits in the field of "transportation infotronics". A one paragraph abstract of the project must be included with the application.
