Allen School Scholarships
The Allen School offers scholarships through over 25 separate sources of funding. Only current Computer Science and Computer Engineering majors are eligible to receive an Allen School scholarship. Pre-majors and students in other engineering departments should contact the College of Engineering to inquire about other available awards. List of Allen School Scholarships
The scholarships listed on this page are available only to those students currently enrolled as Computer Science or Computer Engineering majors at the University of Washington. The application process takes place during Summer Quarter each year. Allen School majors will be notified when the application becomes available.
Current Scholarships
- Anderson Family Endowed Scholarship
- Corin Anderson attended the University of Washington from 1993 through 2003, and he has the good fortune of sharing in much of his undergraduate experience with family, who were also earning degrees at the UW. Award amounts will vary. Recipients shall be entering freshmen or transfer students who demonstrate financial need, as determined by the Office of Students Financial Aid.
- CSE Award for Excellence Scholarship
- The CSE Award for Excellence was established by funds from donors who wish to remain anonymous. The awards are based on academic merit. Scholarship amounts vary with awards up to $5000.
- Eileen Bjorkman Endowed Scholarship in Computer Science & Engineering
- This scholarship provides encouragement and academic support to students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, students who are the first in their family to go to college, students who have overcome personal or educational obstacles to go to college, students with deep experience with diversity, or with diverse cultures, and/or students with a demonstrated interest in the advancement of women in the field of computer science and engineering.
- Boeing Scholarship
- In recent years, Boeing has provided scholarship assistance for freshmen entering Computer Science & Engineering through the Allen School's Direct Admission program. Scholarship amounts vary with awards up to $3000.
- Burkhardt Scholarship
- The award will be based on financial need, as determined by the Office of Student Financial Aid. Scholarships amounts and the number of awards will vary, depending on the need of the student(s).
- John Colleran and Michelle Kastner Colleran Endowed Scholarship
- John Colleran and Michelle Kastner both paid their own way to attend the UW. They continue to be active supporters of the UW and would like to help facilitate a college education for others, who wish to follow this path. Recipients shall be undergraduate students who have demonstrated financial need, as determined by the Office of Student Financial Aid, or for whom the cost of a University education would be a significant personal or family financial hardship, but who do not qualify for traditional need-based grants or scholarships.
- David N. Cutler Endowed Scholarship
- This scholarship will be awarded to incoming freshmen or transfer students with demonstrated financial need, as determined by the Office of Student Financial Aid. The award amount varies depending on the individual need of the recipients.
- Denice Dee Denton Scholarship
- In June 2006, CSE named the endowment to honor Denice Dee Denton, who served as Dean of the University of Washington College of Engineering from 1996-2005. Denice was an inspirational leader and a strong voice for social justice, diversity, and excellence. Scholarship amounts vary with awards up to $5000.
- Neil E. Eney Jr. Veteran's Endowed Scholarship
- The Neil E. Eney Jr. Veteran's Endowed Scholarship was established in 2012 to honor Neil's generous spirit and to help veterans attend the University of Washington in Computer Science & Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
- Kyril Faenov Endowed Scholarship
- The Kyril Faenov Endowed Scholarship was established in 2020 to honor Kyril Faenov, who distinguished himself academically and then as an extraordinarily creative, hardworking, and successful executive and engineer in the computer industry.
- Dreama Frost Endowed Scholarship
- This $2500 endowed scholarship was established in 1999 to honor the memory of CSE Professional Master's Program Advisor Dreama Frost. Students who would like to be considered for the Dreama Frost Scholarship should discuss in their application essays ways in which they have overcome adverse circumstances or persevered when faced with challenges.
- Glerum Family Endowed Scholarship
- This scholarship will be awarded to incoming freshmen with demonstrated financial need, as determined by the Office of Student Financial Aid. The award amount varies depending on the individual need of the recipients.
- Hellmut Golde Endowed Scholarship
- Hellmut Golde served as acting chair from 1976-1977. Notably, Hellmut’s collaboration with five graduate students in the late 1970’s to produce a Pascal compiler had a profound effect on the department. The scholarship was established by an anonymous donor in 2001 in honor of Hellmut's accomplishments and contributions to Computer Science & Engineering. This $2500 award is based on academic merit.
- Google Endowed Scholarship
- This endowment was established in 2008 by employees of Google to help students with financial need in Computer Science & Engineering fund the cost of attending the University of Washington. This scholarship will be awarded to incoming freshmen or transfer students with demonstrated financial need, as determined by the Office of Student Financial Aid. The award amount varies depending on the individual need of the recipients.
- Jim Gray Endowed Scholarship
- The scholarship was established by Jim and Donna Gray in 2004 in order to provide assistance to freshmen entering the Computer Science & Engineering. This award is based on financial need, as determined by the Office of Student Financial Aid. The award amount varies depending on the individual need of the recipients.
- David & Cathy Habib Endowed Scholarship
- The purpose of this endowment is to provide assistance to undergraduate students in Computer Science & Engineering. It was established in 2007 by David and Cathy Habib. Recipients shall be entering freshmen or transfer students who demonstrate financial need, as determined by the Office of Students Financial Aid. The award amount varies depending on the individual need of the recipients.
- James Hewitt Endowed Scholarship
- This endowed scholarship was created in honor of James A. Hewitt Jr., Senior Systems Engineer/Architect in Computer Science & Engineering at the University of Washington. The primary criterion for this $2500 award is academic merit. In addition, an application essay should address the opportunities you pursue, both in and outside of school, to increase your own life learning.
- InfoSpace Endowed Scholarship
- The purpose of the $2500 InfoSpace Endowed Scholarship is to provide educational opportunities to talented Computer Science & Engineering students who may not otherwise be able to pursue their college education.
- Anu and Naveen Jain Endowed Scholarship in Business and Computer Science & Engineering
- Formerly the Intelius Endowed Scholarship, the scholarship was established by Naveen and Anu Jain in order to provide assistance to freshmen entering Computer Science & Engineering and Business programs. This award is based on academic merit and financial need, as determined by the Office of Student Financial Aid. The award amount varies depending on the individual need of the recipients.
- Gary Kildall Endowed Scholarship
- The Gary Kildall Endowed Scholarship was established in his honor in 1997, and it has been awarded every year since that time to outstanding CSE undergraduate students. The award is based on academic merit only. Currently the endowment generates two awards in the amount of $2,500.
- Gary D. Kimura Family Endowed Scholarship
- In establishing this fund in 2008, it was the wish of Gary and Christine that this scholarship provide financial resources to allow students to attend the University of Washington, just as Gary had received assistance for his undergraduate education. Recipients shall be entering freshmen or transfer students who demonstrate financial need, as determined by the Office of Students Financial Aid. The award amount varies depending on the individual need of the recipients.
- Todd Laney Endowed Scholarship
- The purpose of this endowment is to provide assistance to undergraduate students in Computer Science & Engineering. It was established in 2009 by Todd Laney. Recipients shall be entering freshmen or transfer students who demonstrate financial need, as determined by the Office of Students Financial Aid. The award amount varies depending on the individual need of the recipients.
- Leo Maddox Foundation Endowed Scholarship
- This endowment was established in 2020 to honor Leo Maddox Schneider of Seattle, an aspiring computer scientist, oceanographer, and athlete who passed away at age 13 from complications stemming from severe injuries he sustained in an automobile accident.
- Microsoft Endowed Scholarship
- The Microsoft Endowed Scholarship was established in 1993 to provide financial assistance to undergraduate students in Computer Science & Engineering. Award amounts vary, and the selection of recipients is based principally on academic merit.
- Jerre Noe Endowed Scholarship
- The Jerre Noe Endowed Scholarship was established by Jim and Donna Gray in 2001 in honor of Jerre's accomplishments and contributions to Computer Science & Engineering at the University of Washington. The purpose of this $2500 award is to provide assistance to undergraduate students in Computer Science & Engineering. The award is based on academic merit.
- Patil Endowed Scholarship
- The Patil Endowed Scholarship was established in 2021. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to undergraduate students in the Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering and encourages students to become leaders, innovators, and change-makers.
- Pedrizetti Family Endowed Scholarship
- This endowment was established in 2007 with a gift from the Pedrizetti family to help undergraduate students with financial need in Computer Science & Engineering fund the cost of attending the University of Washington. Recipients shall be entering freshmen or transfer students who demonstrate financial need, as determined by the Office of Students Financial Aid. The award amount varies depending on the individual need of the recipients.
- Perkowitz Family Endowed Scholarship
- The Perkowitz Family Endowed Scholarship was established in 2024. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to undergraduate students in the Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering. It is the donors' preference that funds support students who are associated with diversity and inclusivity-related registered student organizations, such as Women in Computing and/or similar Allen School-related organizations.
- RealNetworks Endowed Scholarship
- The purpose of this scholarship is to provide worthy undergraduate students in need of financial assistance an opportunity to advance their education in computer science and computer engineering. Recipients shall be entering freshmen or transfer students who demonstrate financial need, as determined by the Office of Students Financial Aid. The award amount varies depending on the individual need of the recipients.
- Su Family Endowed Scholarship
- This endowment was established by the Su Family to provide merit-based scholarships for undergraduates in the UW Department of Computer Science & Engineering as an opportunity for the Su Family to give back to, connect with, and support eager, motivated, and high-achieving UW CSE students in their educational pursuits.
- Tock Family Endowed Scholarship
- This scholarship will be awarded to incoming freshmen with demonstrated financial need, as determined by the Office of Student Financial Aid. The award amount varies depending on the individual need of the recipients.
- Alfred C. Weaver Endowed Scholarship
- This endowment was established in 2007 in the name of Dr. Alfred Weaver to help undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need in Computer Science & Engineering fund the cost of attending the University of Washington. Recipients shall be entering freshmen or transfer students who demonstrate financial need, as determined by the Office of Students Financial Aid. The award amount varies depending on the individual need of the recipient.
- Wisniewski Endowed Scholarship
- This endowed scholarship was established in 1998 by Dr. Jo-Anne Wisniewski in memory of her husband. Currently the endowment generates two awards in the amount of $2,500. The award is based on academic merit and expressed financial need.
- Yamasaki Endowed Scholarship
- This scholarship will be awarded to entering freshmen or entering transfer students in Computer Science & Engineering at the University of Washington. Selection is based on demonstrated financial need, as determined by the Office of Student Financial Aid. The award amount varies depending on the individual need of the recipients.

Many members of the school's Industry Affiliates program help with funding our undergraduate students through scholarships and programs. In addition to the Allen School scholarships offered by several of our affiliates, the companies below offer external scholarships that could be of interest to our undergraduate students.

Intel: Intel works with community organizations such as GEM Consortium, Semiconductor Research Corporation (SRC), Hispanic Scholarship Fund, and UNFC to offer internship opportunities for college students in STEM programs. This is a strategic intern program that complements Intel’s college intern program by ensuring the 99% of the candidates are underrepresented minorities and/or females. Additionally, the candidates have been selected by the partner organizations as fellowship/scholarship recipients. Student Travel Grants: Facebook, Microsoft, and other companies award travel funding for conferences including the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Technology.
